The Kasseler Kuppe is 753.6  m above sea level. NHN the highest elevation of the extensive high plateau of the Hohe Meißner in the Werra-Meißner district in Hesse .

geography

location

The wooded Kassel hilltop is located in the northern part of the Hoher Meißner mountain range in the Frau-Holle-Land geo-nature park (Werra Valley, Meissner, Kaufunger Forest) . The high plateau around the summit extends to parts of the districts of the cities of Großalmerode and Hessisch Lichtenau as well as the communities of Berkatal and Meißner . The highest point of the summit belongs to the Frankershausen district of Berkatal .

Natural allocation

The Kasseler Kuppe belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35), in the main unit Fulda-Werra-Bergland (357) and in the subunit Meißnergebiet (357.8) to the natural area Hoher Meißner (357.81; see also natural area allocation in the article Hoher Meißner ).

Highest point in northeast Hesse

The Kasseler Kuppe is part of the Meißner high plateau, which is a maximum of around 4.2 km long and around 2.2 km wide - measured from the 700 m height line upwards. It is not, as shown in many publications, the highest elevation in North Hesse , but “only” the highest mountain in Northeast Hesse. The highest mountains in North Hesse are in the Upland .

Protected areas

Parts of the Meißner bird sanctuary (VSG no. 4725-401; 37.2078  km² ) lie on the Kassel knoll and parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Meißner and Meißner Vorland (FFH no. 4725-306; 20.4282 km²).

Kasseler Hut

About 550 m southwest of the highest point of the Kasseler Kuppe, near a forest path crossing ( 748.3  m ), there is the Kasseler Hütte ( ) shelter made of wood with a tiled roof at an altitude of around 750  m .

Opportunities for viewing and hiking

A good view is not possible from the Kasseler Kuppe, because forest obscures the view. There are, however, interesting vantage points on the Hoher Meißner, for example at Kalbe, which is 1.5 km further south-southeast on the east side of the mountain range . Numerous hiking trails lead through the forest landscape of the hilltop and high plateau.
