coat of arms
The municipal council of the Meißner municipality decided to use the current municipal coat of arms on November 3rd, 1997. The coat of arms was developed in cooperation with the Hessian State Archives in Marburg and has the following meaning:
Since all districts of Meißner once belonged to the county of Bilstein and the Premonstratensian monastery of Germerode, founded by the Counts of Bilstein, had rich property there, a coat of arms was chosen that takes these historical facts into account. The coat of arms of the Counts of Bilstein is known from seals from the 13th century. It shows three upright axes 2: 1, with the top two axes facing away from each other. The colors of the coat of arms have not survived. A coat of arms of the Premonstratensian monastery Germerode could not be determined. Since the seals of the monastery in the 13th and 14th centuries always show the Holy Virgin Mary as patron saint, this was heraldically represented by a lily as a sign of virginity with a crown above it as a symbol of the Queen of Heaven. As an allusion to the Meißner mountain , which also gave the municipality its name, a three-mountain was added to the base of the shield.
Regular events
Every year on the weekend after Corpus Christi , a country festival takes place in the Abterode district. The Christmas market takes place around the church on the first Advent every year.
