geography

The municipality of Ringgau is located in the Ringgau about eleven kilometers (as the crow flies ) south of Eschwege between the Meißner and Thuringian forests . It is located in the southern part of the Frau-Holle-Land Geo-Nature Park .

Neighboring communities

Ringgau borders in the north on the municipalities of Wehretal and Weißenborn (both in the Werra-Meißner district), in the east on the Thuringian city ​​of Treffurt ( Wartburg district ), in the south on the municipality of Herleshausen and in the west on the city of Sontra (both in the Werra-Meißner -Circle).

The community consists of the districts Datterode , Grandenborn , Lüderbach , Netra (seat of the municipal administration), Renda , Rittmannshausen and Röhrda .

history

The area was Thuringian up to the 13th century, then changed back and forth between Hesse and Thuringia in the Hessian-Thuringian War of Succession , until it finally came to Hesse in 1436. The Boyneburg in the immediate vicinity attracted emperors and kings as an imperial castle, in whose wake many knights and horsemen marched across the fields. Last but not least, the road through the Netratal represented an important connection route from Leipzig to Frankfurt and was well known under the name "the long Hessians".

Church planting

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipalities of Grandenborn, Lüderbach, Netra, Renda and Rittmannshausen merged on December 31, 1971 to form the municipality of Ringgau. Datterode and Röhrda merged on April 1, 1972 in the municipality of Netratal . These two communities was on 1 January 1974 by virtue of national law for the new large community Ringau together .

The two-part nature conservation and FFH areaBoyneburg and Schickeberg bei Breitau ” lies to the east and north-east of Breitau on the border with Sontra .

Regular events

  • On Ascension Day a folk festival takes place at the ruins of the Boyneburg with a service by the Datterode pastor and with the traditional bread donation by the Lords of Boyneburg .
  • A handball turf tournament of the SG Datterode / Röhrda has been taking place in Datterode on the weekend of Pentecost since 1992 . Over 100 teams of both genders and all age groups take part, including national teams.
  • A tent fair is held annually in all other districts .

traffic

The town is connected to the road network via federal road 7 ( Kassel - Eisenach ), which runs directly through the municipality. All districts of the community are connected to the district town of Eschwege and Herleshausen by the NVV bus line 240.

The nearest train stations are Herleshausen on the Halle – Bebra line and the Wehretal-Reichensachsen stop on the Göttingen – Bebra line .
