history

View of the fortified church

Röhrda was one of the first settlements in the Ringgau. The establishment of the settlement was favored by two water sources. Röhrda is mentioned for the first time in a (forged) document from the Lippoldsberg monastery from 1089. The settlement must be older, however, as two churches used to exist side by side, the parish church of Peter and Paul and the Martinskirche, of which only the remains of the Martinskirche can be seen today.

The place was divided into two parts. One half belonged to the Herren von Boyneburg family , of whose share the Landgraves of Hesse bought one half in 1650. It was not until 1803 that the elector of Hessen-Kassel was able to take possession of the remaining part and later transfer it to private ownership. The Boyneburg ownership can still be traced under the name “Meierei”. The other half of the village was an Electoral Palatinate fiefdom of the Lords of Falken , and this is how the village was named as early as 1350. Around the middle of the 16th century this share passed to the Lords of Herda . In 1654, Lucas von Siegel acquired the manor for about 30 years. Thereafter ownership passed to the Lords of Meysenbug . In 1780 a Herr von Castell bought the estate, who in turn sold it in 1836 to Johannes Rexerodt, the grandfather of the Raiffeisen co- founder. His descendants still own it today. In 1530, half of the town was destroyed in a village fire, while the fortified church with the half-timbered tower and the remains of the formerly fortified churchyard were preserved.

present

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent municipality of Röhrda merged on April 1, 1972 with the neighboring village of Datterode to form the municipality of Netratal . Two years later, on January 1, 1974, it was incorporated into the Ringgau community. In 1989 Röhrda received a gold award in the competition “Our village should become more beautiful”.
