Meinhard is a municipality in the Werra-Meißner district in Hesse , Germany , with its administrative headquarters in Grebendorf .

geography

Meinhard is located in the north Hessian low mountain range on the edge of the Werra valley, barely 3 km north of the district town of Eschwege . The Gobert rises to the north .

In Meinhard-Frieda which opens Frieda into the Werra. The weir flows into the Werra on the banks of the Werra opposite Meinhard-Jestädt .

Neighboring communities

Meinhard borders in the northeast and east on the municipalities of Volkerode , Pfaffschwende , Kella and Geismar (all four in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld ), in the southeast on the city of Wanfried , in the south and west on the city of Eschwege , and in the northwest on the city of Bad Sooden Allendorf (all three in the Werra-Meißner district).

The community consists of the seven districts Frieda , Grebendorf (seat of the municipal administration), Hitzelrode , Jestädt , Neuerode , Motzenrode and Schwebda .

Incorporations

On December 31, 1971, the community of Meinhard was re-formed through the merger of the previously independent communities Frieda, Grebendorf, Jestädt and Schwebda. On April 1, 1972, Hitzelrode, Motzenrode and Neuerode were added.

mayor

Mayor Gerhold Brill (independent) was elected on October 13, 2013 with 53.8% of the vote. The turnout was 69.2%. On February 9, 2020, he was re-elected for a second term with 56.7%.

Administrative headquarters

The so-called Keudell Castle in Grebendorf. Since 1993 seat of the municipal administration of Meinhard.

In 1987 the community of Meinhard bought the so-called Keudell Castle in Grebendorf, a stately three-storey Renaissance building in half-timbered over a massive basement. After a six-year renovation, the building has been used as the administrative headquarters since 1993.

The largest employer in the community is friedola Gebr. Holzapfel GmbH in the Frieda district.

At the Seepark in Schwebda there is access to the Werratalsee. The Werratal cycle path runs through the municipality . The district of Hitzelrode is the starting point for many hikes. The premium hiking trail P4 runs there .

The federal highway 249 runs through the municipality in the section Eschwege - Mühlhausen .

The Kanonenbahn ran through the municipality in the Leinefelde – Treysa section . The Schwebda station was a railway junction that where until 1945 railway Holy City Schwebda and the railway Schwebda-Wartha branched off (Werra train) from the Kanonenbahn. After 1945, as a result of the division of Germany, only the Eschwege-Schwebda line and the section of the Werra Valley Railway to Wanfried - Heldra remained in operation, which were gradually shut down until 1994 and later dismantled. The Werra Valley Cycle Path now runs along parts of the former Schwebda – Wartha railway line .

Club sport

The community of Meinhard came under fire throughout Germany in early 2014 because it wanted to demand a usage fee - “club euro” - from local sports clubs for the use of community-owned halls and spaces.
