history
Pfaffschwende was first mentioned in a document under the name Pfaffingesendung in connection with the reconstruction of the nearby Greifenstein Castle in 1399. During the peasant war in 1524/25 the place was completely destroyed, but rebuilt in the same place in 1540. The place belonged to Kurmainz until the secularization , from 1802 to 1945 it was part of the Prussian province of Saxony .
An important acquisition for the Pfaffschwender since around 1840 were cotton weaving products . In the years 1922 to 1924 the place was electrified. After the Second World War , some families came to Pfaffschwende as a result of the resettlement of people from the German eastern regions. The place belonged to the Soviet occupation zone until 1949 and was part of the GDR from 1949.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Sickerode was incorporated.
By order of the Council of Ministers of the GDR , a 5 km exclusion zone , in which the town was located, was created on the inner German border from 1952 . As a result, the place could no longer be visited by citizens who lived in the interior of the GDR without a permit. In order to be in the place, a stamp with the note had to be impressed on the person's identity card. With the turn of 1989/1990 the place came to Thuringia.
