Wiesenfeld is located in the west of the Eichsfeld district near the Hessian border between the municipalities of Armaments, Volkerode and Sickerode . The "Wiesenbach" (actually "Wisentbach") joins the Hesselbach near Wiesenfeld and is called Rode below Wiesenfeld . history
The village is first mentioned in the 9th century as "Wiesenfelt", where it is owned by the Fulda Monastery. But whether it is the local meadow field is not proven. Later it was owned by the von Weberstedt gentlemen , who owned a bower in the village and were castle men at the nearby Greifenstein castle . From 1380 the lords of Hanstein owned the place until 1818.
The first documented church building took place in 1560. The baroque high altar dates from 1703. Wiesenfeld belonged to Kurmainz until the secularization in 1802 . From 1802 to 1807 the place became Prussian and then became part of the Kingdom of Westphalia . From 1815 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony . In 1945 the local manor "Hessel" was expropriated and divided up as part of the land reform. Until 1949 the place was assigned to the Soviet occupation zone and from 1949 it became part of the GDR . From 1961 until the turnaround and reunification in 1989/1990, Wiesenfeld was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border. Since 1990 the place belongs to the re-established state of Thuringia. As so-called resettlers, three farms took over the production of agricultural products from the local LPG, including Gut Hessel .
To the west of the village in the Hesselbach valley was the old Hessel estate , which was expropriated in 1945 as part of the land reform.
