Wingerode is a municipality in the Eichsfeld district of Thuringia in the Leinetal administrative community .
geography
location
Wingerode is located in the Leinetal about 6 kilometers east of Heilbad Heiligenstadt and 5 km west of Leinefelde . The place is surrounded by the heights of the Dün with the Heiligenberg ( 493.6 m ) in the south and the elevations of Stöckberg ( 351.8 m ), Mühlenberg ( 343.5 m ) and the Eschberg ( 355.1 m ) in the north . In Wingerode the Haarbach and the Ritterbach flow into the Leine.

The immediate neighbors are Beuren in the east, Bodenrode in the west and Steinbach in the northwest.
traffic
The place has a stop on the Halle – Hann railway line. Münden . The state road L 2021 connects with the former federal road 80 and today's L 3080 , to the north runs the federal highway 38 with the Etzelsbachtal bridge. The Leine-Heide-Radweg leads from Leinefelde through Wingerode.
history
The first documentary mention took place on September 24th 1146 as Wichelderothe , so Wingerode was able to celebrate its 850th anniversary in 1996. In 1174 Heinrich the Lion , Duke of Bavaria and Saxony acquired the village from the Volkenroda monastery for the price of two hooves of land. The local St. Ignatius Chapel has been a destination for pilgrimages since the 17th century. Wingerode belonged to Kurmainz until the secularization in 1802 and was subject to the jurisdiction of the von Hanstein family . From 1802 to 1807 the place became Prussian and then became part of the Kingdom of Westphalia . From 1815 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony . In 1945 the place came to the Soviet occupation zone and was part of the GDR from 1949 . From 1961 until the turnaround and reunification in 1989/1990, Wingerode was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border. Since 1990 the place belongs to the re-established state of Thuringia.
