Lenterode is a municipality in the Uder administrative community in the Eichsfeld district of Thuringia .

geography

location

Lenterode is located in the valley of the Asbach, a left tributary of the Leine . The Schierbach rises in the Höhberg and flows into the Asbach in the village. Neighboring towns are Uder in the north, Wüstheuterode in the south and Röhrig in the south-west.

Forests and mountains

Lenterode is surrounded by three wooded mountains. The Röhringsberg (487 m) in the north-west with the Höhberg has a spring that supplies the place with water. In the east lies the Knappberg (445.7 m) and the Lengenberg (with the Great Lichtenbühl (460.8 m) and the Little Lichtenbühl (375.6 m)), here the Griesbach rises. The mountainous area around Lenterode is ideal for hiking.

Geological evolution

Lenterode is surrounded by the middle red sandstone . There is a small break in this rock under Lenterode. The Upper Buntsandstein joins the mountainous hills, while the wooded mountain peaks are made of Lower Muschelkalk .

history

Lenterode was first mentioned in a document in 1260, the name denotes the clearing of a Lenthilde . In a document from around 1260 a dean Gernoth, scholaster Geverhardus and cantor Ernst from St. Martinstift in Heiligenstadt are mentioned when they settled the dispute between the knight Amelung von Lencheroth and the Walkenried monastery . One of the witnesses is a Konrad von Lenterode .

The place belonged to Kurmainz until the secularization , from 1815 to 1945 it was part of the Prussian province of Saxony. In 1945 the place came to the Soviet occupation zone and was part of the GDR from 1949. From 1961 until the turnaround and reunification in 1989/1990, Lenterode was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border. Since 1990 the place belongs to Thuringia.
