Schimberg is a municipality in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia . It is the seat of the administrative community Ershausen / Geismar . The community in Südeichsfeld derives its name from the Schimberg , which characterizes the districts .

geography

location

Schimberg is located in the Obereichsfeld west of the Westerwald ridge in the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park . The Misseröder limestone ridge stretches between Ershausen and armaments .

Community structure

The community of Schimberg consists of six districts:

Waters

At Martinfeld the Schloßbach flows , in the Ershausen district the Krombach coming from the northwest and at Wilbich the Wildebach flows into the Rosoppe , which flows into the Frieda at Geismar . Other small springs arise in the municipality, such as the Gute Born and the Tiefenbach .

history

In 1071 Martinfeld , 1169 Ershausen, 1318 armor as "Rystinen" and Wilbich, 1479 Misserode as "Missßenrode" and 1522 Lehna were first mentioned in a document. The places belonged to Kurmainz until the secularization in 1802 . From 1802 to 1807 they became Prussian and then came to the Kingdom of Westphalia . From 1815 to 1945 they were part of the Prussian province of Saxony .

On April 8, 1945, the sites were occupied by the US Army . In Ershausen, 6 residents died from artillery fire, and there was also severe damage to buildings. Two bridge blasts contributed to this, as also in Martinfeld. Wilbich also received artillery fire. Then the places were "easily occupied". They came to the Soviet occupation zone ( SBZ ) at the beginning of July 1945 and were part of the GDR from 1949 . From 1961 until the turnaround and reunification in 1989/1990, they were affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border. Since 1990 the places belonged to the re-established state of Thuringia. The formation of today's community Schimberg took place on July 30, 1997 through the amalgamation of the formerly independent communities Ershausen (with the towns of Misserode and Lehna, which were incorporated on January 1, 1957) as well as Martinfeld, armaments and Wilbich.
