geography
At the foot of the Steinberg, at an altitude of 316 m, lies the village of Steinheuterode, surrounded by forest, in a valley. The houses are arranged around the St. Alban's Church and around the former manor, which is now used as a village community center.
history
The first written mention of the place goes back to the year 1228, in which the place was mentioned as "Hauwerterode". To distinguish it from the Eichsfeldort Wüstheuterode , the place was given the nickname "Stein" in 1619. The manor was built in 1575. In 1732 the “Regine” fountain was built on the manor's yard. The sovereign was Kurmainz until 1802 , from 1802 to 1945 with a short interruption by the Kingdom of Westphalia Prussia . 1945 to 1949 the place was part of the Soviet occupation zone and from 1949 part of the GDR. From 1961 until the turnaround and reunification in 1989/1990, Steinheuterode was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border. Since 1990 the place belongs to the re-established state of Thuringia.
coat of arms
Blazon : "In blue a golden mountain, inside a black tree stump, growing out of it a silver, golden-armored billy goat, top right accompanied by a golden oak leaf."
The coat of arms shows a billy goat in the center, alluding to the nickname of the inhabitants of Steintreeder billy goats . Such nicknames are widespread for places in the Eichsfeld.
The golden oak leaf refers to the location of the community in Eichsfeld . The foundation of the village as a clearing settlement is symbolized by the tree stump in the foreground. The location of the place on the Steinberg is taken into account by the mountain in the shield foot.
