Geisleden is a municipality in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia . It belongs to the administrative community of Leinetal .
geography
Geisleden is located about four kilometers southeast of Heiligenstadt in the Geislede valley . Other neighboring towns are Bodenrode-Westhausen in the north, Kreuzebra in the east and Heuthen in the southeast.
To the north is the Dün with the Kirchloh (438 m) and the Steinrunde (475 m), in the south the Obereichsfelder Höhe with the Warteberg (516 m). In terms of traffic, the place is connected via the state roads L 1005 Heiligenstadt- Dingelstädt and L 2020 Bodenrode-Heuthen.
history
Geisleden was mentioned in a document as early as 1022 as an imperial village , when Henry II gave the monastery in Heiligenstadt some properties, including two farms in Geisleden. In 1028 a synod convened by Archbishop Aribo took place in Geisleden , in which the dispute between the Archbishop of Mainz and the Bishop of Hildesheim Godehard over the Gandersheim monastery was concerned. Prerequisites for the emperor's stay and the holding of a synod were a sufficiently large court and the presence of a church. When the Mühlhausen heap moved through the Eichsfeld, Thomas Müntzer's father in Geisleden advertised participation in the campaign, but probably only received bread and beer. At the end of the 16th century, Leopold von Stralendorf , senior magistrate of Eichsfeld, acquired several farms in Geisleden. Geisleden was one of the few villages in Eichsfeld that had not become Protestant.
On April 9, 1945 Geisleden was occupied by the US Army . This was preceded by artillery bombardment with damage to numerous houses. Three civilians were killed in the process. Two Wehrmacht soldiers were buried in the community cemetery. At the beginning of July it was occupied by the Red Army and incorporated into the Soviet Zone , from 1949 GDR.
Origin of name
The name Geisleden could be derived from "Geis-laha" for goat pool / brook or Geisbach. An upper course of the Geislede is still called "Gieselbach" today. Another explanation is possible from “Geisl-aha” for scourge or snake and water, ie pouring water.
Noble family von Geisleden
From 13-14 A noble family von Geisleden is known from the 19th century. They owned the Vogteirecht over Geisleden and the old town of Heiligenstadt with other places. Presumably they already owned the Vogtsamt over the royal court in Geisleden, where numerous documents were drawn up and the Archbishop of Mainz, Aribo, held a synod. The following members of the family are proven:
- Ordemar of Gezlede (1269)
- Bertholdus de Geyzelede (1283)
- Werner von Geisleden (1323), citizen of Heiligenstadt
- Hugo von Geisleden (1338), scholaster at St. Martinstift in Heiligenstadt
- Hug (the same?) And Johann von Geisleden (1341), castle men at Rusteberg Castle , sell their share in the Heiligenstadt Bailiwick
- The von Geisleden brothers (1341) sell the village of Neuseesen to the Archbishop of Mainz
- Henrich von Geisleden (1347), as a witness
- Wedekind of Geisleden (1373)
