Pilgrimage route Loccum – Volkenroda
The Loccum – Volkenroda pilgrimage route is a pilgrimage route between the Loccum monastery and the Volkenroda monastery established by the House of Church Services of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Hanover .
history
The trail was founded in 2005. The starting point and destination have been linked since the High Middle Ages , as Loccum is a subsidiary of Volkenroda. The pilgrimage route is supervised by the Pilgrim and Reflection Paths Department in the House of Church Services in Hanover.
Course and description
The pilgrimage route is marked by the Loccum Cistercian cross and, in addition to the starting points and destinations of the day, also has marked intermediate stations, mostly churches, on the stages. The main path is around 290 kilometers long and is walked in 18 daily stages as standard. Around three quarters of the route goes through Lower Saxony and around a quarter through Thuringia . Loop routes also lead through North Rhine-Westphalia . Since the path leads through a historically central area and therefore richly endowed with sites of Christian remembrance, alternative routes or loops can be followed from several stations. The route was chosen so that it is suitable for both hikers and cyclists . The path has only moderate inclines, as it leads through a harmonious low mountain range.
