geography
location

The village of Silberborn in southern Lower Saxony is located on a plateau of the Hochsolling. It is located in the Solling-Vogler Nature Park around nine kilometers southeast of Holzminden, just under two and a half kilometers northeast of Neuhaus im Solling , eleven kilometers east of Höxter , 13.5 kilometers northwest of Uslar and almost eleven kilometers west-southwest of Dassel (distances as the crow flies) .
An upper section of the Holzminde , a right tributary of the Weser, flows through Silberborn .
The nearby mountains Große Blöse ( 527.8 m ; northeast), Großer Ahrensberg ( 524.9 m ; north) and Moosberg ( 513 m ; south) are the highest mountains in the Solling low mountain range, which is why it is referred to here as Hochsolling.
Peat house
The Torfhaus district, which consists of a few buildings, is located on the Silberborn plateau 1.25 kilometers east of the Silberborn town center on Landesstraße 549 at an altitude of around 490 m , making it the highest village in the Solling.
Silberborn and Torfhaus are surrounded by dense forests of the Solling, some of which have been and are converted into meadows, and also by raised bogs.
history
The place Silberborn goes back to the founding of a glassworks in 1742, when the colony "Silberborn" was created in 1765 and expanded in the following years by the settlement of growers. The Markuskirche was consecrated in 1860, the highest church in Solling.
In December 1910, 338 people lived in the place, while about 60 years earlier 361 people were recorded, spread over 51 houses; not among them were nine people in a house located outside the village Am Moosberge and the 123 inhabitants of the Neuhaus stud .
Silberborn belonged to the Uslar district until 1932 . This was incorporated into the Northeim district on October 1, 1932 , so that the village belonged to this district until it was incorporated.
On December 30, 1957, a British Canberra (XJ 249) bomber plane crashed in a forest near the Mecklenbruch. The wreck was recovered on January 2, 1958. The three crew members HWR Clarke, B. Milne and DT McCarthy were killed in the crash. A memorial was dedicated to them on April 26, 1958.
In 1961, the Silberborn youth center was built to enable children and young people from the Northeim district to have a range of leisure activities close to their home. Closure is planned for the end of December 2018.
On January 1, 1973 Silberborn was incorporated into the district town of Holzminden. The youth home remained in the Northeim district.
Silberborn was a state-recognized health resort until the end of 2010 .
