The Great Ahrensberg belongs with 524.9 m above sea level. NN to the highest mountains of the Solling , which is located in southern Lower Saxony ( Germany ).
The heavily forested mountain is about 7 km (as the crow flies ) west-southwest of Dassel between the villages of Hellental and Schießhaus in the north and Silberborn in the south. It is located on the western flank of the Hellentaler Graben, through which the Helle flows, and is surrounded by the Solling-Vogler Nature Park . Beyond or south-southeast of this trench is the Great Pelt .
The area of the Großer Ahrensberg belongs to the growing area "Hoher Solling" above 400 m, which is characterized by high precipitation and low temperatures. These climatic conditions are z. B. still sufficient for a good growth of the beech .
