Zella is part of the municipality of Anrode in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia and is part of the historic Obereichsfeld .
location
Zella is located on the national road 2041 from Dachrieden to Dingelstädt, about 9 kilometers northwest of Mühlhausen . The district lies in the Unstrut valley between the heights of the Dün in the northeast, the Upper Eichsfeld in the west and the Thuringian Basin in the southeast.
history
In the year 1201 the first mention was written in the certificate book of the Eichsfeld 161. Zella joined the community of Anrode on January 1, 1997. On December 31, 2011, 317 people lived in the district.
Breitenbich
The Breitenbich property, one kilometer to the east, belongs to Zella. It was first mentioned in a document in 1249 as the Breitenbich monastery. In 1253 the Cistercian monastery was given up again and converted into an estate, the convent moved to Mühlhausen. From 1908 to 1997 the surrounding towns were connected to the railway network with a stop on the Gotha – Leinefelde railway line named after Breitenbich . Today narrow streets lead to the former Breitenbich estate.
