Ammern is a district of the municipality of Unstruttal in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

geography

The district Ammern is located north of Mühlhausen / Thuringia on the outskirts and in the Unstrutaue . To the east of the village, the busy federal road 247 runs through the adjacent district . It leads into the Eichsfeld . There is a stop on the Gotha – Leinefelde railway line . The arable soils in the floodplain consist of alluvial land and at the transitions to the higher areas the soils are further away from the groundwater and consist of shell limestone . 210 m above sea level is measured at the Ammern gauge.

history

Ammern was first mentioned in a document on January 28, 897. For centuries the place was part of the sphere of influence of the Free and Imperial City of Mühlhausen . In 1565, Ammera had a population of 72.

In 1802 Ammern fell together with Mühlhausen to the Kingdom of Prussia , from 1807 to 1813 to the Kingdom of Westphalia ( Canton Dachrieden ) created by Napoleon and was assigned to the district of Mühlhausen in the Prussian province of Saxony after the Congress of Vienna in 1816 .

On September 2, 1995, the merger of the municipalities of Dachrieden, Ammern, Horsmar, Eigenrode and Kaisershagen to form the municipality of Unstruttal, which has its administrative headquarters in Ammern, took place on March 14, 1995.

Culture and sights

  • The Protestant village church of St. Vitus was built around 1270 as a choir tower church and probably renewed in the 18th century. The church was last renovated between 1998 and 2000 with funding from the German Foundation for Monument Protection .
