Attractions

St. Gotthardi village church

The center of the village is formed by the Gothic village church of St. Gotthardi , made of limestone blocks and now part of the Protestant parish of Windeberg . After a fire in 1839, the choir stalls and spire were renewed.

Opposite is the “Zum alten Kaiser” inn in a slatted half-timbered house . The former three-sided farms are lined up on the eaves side along the village green and form an almost closed front of houses with gateways. Most of the houses date from the first half of the 19th century and are half-timbered buildings , the wooden structure of which was partially exposed as a visible framework , but partially plastered or provided with slate or Eternit panels to protect against flying sparks. In the center of the village green, instead of the former village pond, there is a fire extinguishing pool with a fountain, which is surrounded by lawns planted with hawthorn and horse chestnut . The dry stone well in front of the church has also been preserved and has been re-roofed. At the suggestion of the local veterinarian, the Unstruttal municipality in cooperation with the vocational school of the Unstrut-Hainich district converted the transformer house into a so-called animal hotel . In this way, habitat for bats, birds and insects was created.

The old village is surrounded by a belt of cottage gardens and orchards . The northern exit of the village is characterized by an old horse chestnut . Not far to the east, in a cottage garden, and also on the Kirchanger, large-crowned summer linden trees and a winter linden tree in front of the church portal provide shade. The cemetery was moved from Kirchanger to the north-western outskirts. The memorial for those who died in the two world wars indicates that the church was once used as a cemetery .

Inselsberg view from Kaisershagen

From the pastures on the western edge of the village, the view sweeps south over the Luhnetal , the Mühlhausen basin with the city of Mühlhausen / Thuringia and the wooded range of hills of the Hainich . If the visibility is good, the view extends to the Inselsberg , the highest mountain in the western Thuringian Forest , which then appears in the background.

economy

A veterinary practice is located in the village, as well as several craft businesses and a guesthouse. The fields are cultivated by two farms from Kaisershagen and the neighboring Eigenrode. Gardens and pastures are in the hands of part-time farmers. The Flachstal has been grazed with sheep since the beginning of the 19th century; a sheep farm is in the east of the village.

Events

The village community maintains rural traditions - the May fire , the fair and the annual parish fair . Even Whit Maien , freshly cut young birch trees are set up at the village inn.
