Inn
Gasthaus ( ahd . Gasthus , from the 15th century also inn , restaurant ) refers to structures that were built to accommodate and entertain people. This type of building, with its simpler and lesser equipment, is differentiated from the hotel building type , which developed from the end of the 18th century.
Functionally, these buildings are divided into a catering area with a more public focus and an accommodation area with a more private character. This can usually also be read from the outside through the facade design. According to Ernst Seidl, the arrangement of windows in the dining area and the emphasis on the entrance area as well as the use of bay windows or balconies in front of the accommodation rooms are characteristic.
The Duden defines the term as a house with a restaurant and rooms for the accommodation of guests.
