Klein Berkel is a district of the pied piper town of Hameln . It is located on the Ohrbergpark in the southwest of the city.

history

In one of the oldest records, a directory of the Archdeaconate Ohsen, the place is called Barcel prope Hameln . The name Bercel means either "mountain forest" or "water source". For centuries, Klein Berkel was a small farming village. In 1972 the village was added to the city of Hameln as part of the incorporation . Today (2016) Klein Berkel has 4798 inhabitants. Due to its scenic location on the slope of the Ohrberg, it is one of the preferred residential areas of Hameln.

On January 1, 1973, Klein Berkel was incorporated into the district town of Hameln.

The Ecumenical Center Hameln has been located in Klein Berkel for over 40 years and is home to the Catholic St. Vizelin congregation and the Protestant St. Johannis congregation.

Klein Berkel is located on Bundesstrasse 1 . From 1896 to 1980 Klein Berkel was connected to the local rail transport in the direction of Hameln and Bielefeld via the Lager Bahn . Freight traffic was given up in 1985 and the route was dismantled.
