The Wehrberger Warte, originally a control room of the Hamelin Landwehr , then an inn

Wehrbergen is a district of Hameln in the Hameln-Pyrmont district in Lower Saxony . The place is northwest of the city center directly on the Weser .

history

One of the first documented mentions of the place around the year 1240 can be found in the list of the legal relationships of the Hamelin mayor . Earlier place names were Werberghe, Wederberch and Wederberge . The place name is explained as "mountain above the Werre" (Werre is the old name for Weser). Shortly before 1852 the place came from the Office Springe to the Office Hameln. Before it came to the parish of Fischbeck , Wehrbergen was looked after by Holtensen .

In Wehrbergen, which in the Middle Ages was on a traffic route along the Weser to Minden , there was a control room . The Wehrberger Warte belonged to the Hamelin Landwehr , first mentioned in a document in 1385 , which protected the city of Hameln as an advanced fortification system. After the Middle Ages , the Landwehr gradually lost its military importance and since then the Wehrberger Warte is the only one that has been preserved as an inn. It was of particular importance during the siege of Hameln Fortress during the coalition wars in 1806. In the Wehrberger Warte, the French General Savary and the Prussian officer von Schoeler signed the surrender of Hameln.

On January 1, 1973 Wehrbergen was incorporated into the district town of Hameln.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until the end of May 2009, federal highway 83 ran through the village from Hameln to Hessisch-Oldendorf .

The bypass that bypasses Wehrbergen to the northeast has been open since June 5, 2009. The bypass road in the 2 + 1 system is tentatively equipped with a green-colored asphalted 75 centimeter wide median strip that must not be driven over. A connection to the village consists of both Hessisch-Oldendorf and Hameln .

Local public transport is provided by the “Nahverkehr Hameln-Pyrmont” buses.
