Halvestorf is a district of the city of Hameln with 1,033 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016).

geography

The place lies west of the core city and consists of the parts Halvestorf, Hope, Bannensiek and Weidehohl.

history

Halvestorf is mentioned for the first time in the oldest surviving town book in Hameln from the 14th century. The place, then still Halwesdorpe, is listed among the places that had to supply wood for the construction of the Hamelin Weser Bridge. Initially the place belonged to the Grafschaft Schaumburg , but in 1640 it became part of the Duchy of Calenberg through Duke Georg . In the middle of the 19th century, silk was made in Halvestorf . We have had a partnership with the municipality of Berndorf near Salzburg for 25 years.

On January 1, 1973 Halvestorf was incorporated into the district town of Hameln.

politics

Local mayor is Hartmut Binder (SPD). His deputy is Thomas Meyer-Hermann (CDU).
