features

The 28 centimeter long yellow-forehead chattering bird has a gray-brown upper side, strong gray wings with yellowish areas, black eye rims, a cream-colored underside, as well as a yellow eye spot, throat spot, beak and yellow feet.

Occurrence

The bird lives in sparse forests and agricultural areas across Australia with the exception of the south and northeast.

behavior

The yellow-headed chatterbox lives in nomadic swarms with 12 to 50 animals, which split up into smaller groups to search for food. In addition to nectar , fruits and seeds , the bird feeds on ants , beetles , wasps and caterpillars . The yellow-fronted babbling birds are aggressive towards other bird species that come too close to their feeding, resting or nesting places.

Reproduction

The yellow-browed babbler breeds in colonies . During the breeding season from July to December, a loose shell nest made of grass and twigs, padded with wool and feathers, is built in a fork of branches at a height of up to six meters. The clutch consists of two to three eggs. The adult birds in a breeding colony work together to feed and protect the chicks (cooperative brood care).
