Oedelsheim is a district of the Wesertal municipality in the Kassel district in Hesse .
Geographical location
Oedelsheim is located in northern Hesse in the southern part of the Weser Uplands on the wooded southern roof of the Kiffing ridge or on the wooded northern foothills of the Bramwald in the Upper Weser valley . The place is located directly on the right or eastern bank of the Weser, beyond the river the wooded Reinhardswald rises and north of this the Solling .
Oedelsheim is located about 3 km east of Gieselwerder (one of the administrative locations of the Wesertal municipality), 8 km southwest of the small town of Uslar , 22 km west of Göttingen and 30 km north of Kassel (all information as the crow flies ).
history
The place Oedelsheim was first mentioned in a document in 1084, but is likely to be much older. It is believed that a predecessor to the Martinskirche in Oedelsheim was built around the year 1000. Until the Reformation, it was the Sedes Church in the Archdeaconate of Nörten . The St. Martin's patronage of the predecessor building of the Protestant St. Martin's Church refers to this as in other places.
Today's Protestant church was probably built in 1829/30 by the Hessian building officer Daniel Engelhard as a hall structure with five window axes with a closed apse in the west and access through the tower in the east. A medieval font was taken from the previous building.
On February 1, 1971, the previously independent community of Oedelsheim merged with some surrounding communities to form the newly founded large community of Oberweser , which merged with Wahlsburg to form the Wesertal community on January 1, 2020 .
Infrastructure
Oedelsheim itself can be reached via state roads. On the opposite left bank of the Weser, the federal highway 80 runs , with which Oedelsheim is connected by a yaw ferry directly on site or a bridge a few kilometers further northwest near Gieselwerder. At Hann. Münden , Göttingen and Warburg are the next motorway junctions on the A 7 and A 44 .
The nearest regional train stations are in Hann. Münden, Hofgeismar and Bodenfelde ; ICE / IC trains stop in Kassel, Göttingen and Warburg , national airports near Hanover and Paderborn .
Economy and tourism
The resort of Oedelsheim has a factory. Until 2011 the place was a state-recognized climatic health resort . In addition, there are only small craft businesses and shops for daily needs. Agriculture and forestry now only play a subordinate role.
Nowadays tourism is an economic factor that can no longer be neglected. There are numerous overnight accommodations in three hotels, several guest houses, holiday apartments and a campsite .
The village has a number of half-timbered houses, a village museum, an indoor swimming pool , a grill hut and a Kneipp basin. The surrounding area is ideal for cycling and hiking. In the vicinity there are numerous sights such as the castles or castle ruins Saba , Trendel , Bram and Krukenburg and the cities of Hann. Münden, Uslar and Kassel.
