Oberweser was a municipality in the Kassel district in Hesse , which existed from 1971 to 2019. It merged with its neighboring municipality of Wahlsburg to form the municipality of Wesertal .

geography

Oberweser was located in the far north of northern Hesse between the Solling (in the north), the Kiffing ridge (in the east), the Bramwald (in the southeast) and the Reinhardswald (in the west). The community was located on the upper reaches of the Weser on both sides of the river between Hann. Münden and Bad Karlshafen . 3158 inhabitants lived in an area of ​​41.16 km² (as of December 31, 2018).

Neighboring communities

Oberweser bordered in the north on the municipality Wahlsburg (district Kassel in Hesse), in the east on the municipality Uslar ( district Northeim in Lower Saxony ), in the southeast on the spots Adelebsen ( district Göttingen in Lower Saxony) and on the exclave Fürstenhagen belonging to Uslar , im South to the city of Hann. Münden (district of Göttingen) as well as in the west to the community-free area Gutsiertel Reinhardswald (district of Kassel). In addition, the municipality borders on the municipality of Bodenfelde (Northeim district in Lower Saxony) through its exclave Gewissenruh .

The municipality of Oberweser consisted of the districts Arenborn , Gewissenruh , Gieselwerder , Gottstreu , Heisebeck and Oedelsheim . The seat of the municipal administration was Gieselwerder.

history

Gewissenruh and Gottstreu are Waldensian settlements, both of which were created by Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel in 1722 as a French colony with 12 families each. Oedelsheim was first mentioned in a document in 1084, the three other places followed until the 13th century. However, it is certain that they originated between AD 400 and 800.

Church building

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent communities of Arenborn, Gewissenruh, Gieselwerder, Gottstreu and Oedelsheim merged on February 1, 1971 to form the new community of Oberweser. Gieselwerder became the seat of the municipal administration. On August 1, 1972, Heisebeck was added by virtue of state law.

Merger with Wahlsburg

On October 28, 2018, parallel to the Hessian state election , a majority of the citizens of Oberweser voted in a referendum for the merger with the neighboring municipality of Wahlsburg to form a new municipality of Wesertal . The citizens of Wahlsburg also voted for the union in a parallel referendum. The merger took place on January 1, 2020.

Tourism / museums

With Puss in Boots from Oedelsheim and Snow White and the seven dwarfs from Gieselwerder, Oberweser was part of the German Fairy Tale Route . The Mühlenplatz open-air museum is located in Gieselwerder and shows miniature replicas of historical buildings.

The weaving museum is located in a half-timbered house from 1723, at Steinweg 2. The house is called Kleiner Schneider . The Low German hall house is a so-called Diemelsächsisches Bauernhaus, a form of the Low German single house . Typical is the Deelentor (or Dielentor , a large entrance gate of a hallway house ), which is decorated with ornaments and writing. Stables and living quarters extend from the drive-through threshing floor . The gable facade was extensively restored. The house has been open to the public since April 2019.

Another museum worth mentioning is the Schiffermuseum.
