history

The Reifenstein Monastery , founded in 1162, is located in Reifenstein . Count Ernst von Tonna-Gleichen donates the Villa Albolderode , located at the same place, to the Cistercian order. In 961 the Quedlinburg Abbey acquired the place Aldelboldeshrot , but it is not certain whether it is the local place. Ernestus de Tunna witnessed the sale of Villa Albolderode in 1123 . The place is probably the clearing of an Albold, a noble family resident there. The nobleman's court ( curtis in villa ) in the valley and the castle built on the nearby mountain spur are probably connected. When the settlement was abandoned is not known, it is mentioned for the last time in 1209.

The monastery, which existed until 1803, was dissolved due to a Prussian cabinet order. In 1847 an agriculture school was set up in the monastery buildings that were newly built in the 17th and 18th centuries. Furthermore, in the spring of 1900 an economic women's school of the Reifensteiner Verband , later a rural women's school, was set up, which existed until 1949. From 1951 to 1962, a department of the Jena University Hospital was housed in Reifenstein . A hospital has been located in the former monastery buildings since 1964. The church has been used as a concert hall since 1995. The Reifenstein Hospital and the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Worbis have been part of the newly founded Eichsfeld Clinic since 2001. In 2002 the St. Vincenz Hospital in Heiligenstadt also joined the Eichsfeld Clinic. On October 20, 2004, a new Catholic hospital chapel was inaugurated in the Reifenstein house of the Eichsfeld Clinic by Provost Heinz-Josef Durstewitz.

  • Half a kilometer west of the locality, a hotel complex with a small pond called the "house of construction workers" was built in 1978 as a vacation property of the VE Road and Civil Engineering Combine Erfurt, Operation Leinefelde, which is now used as the natural hotel Reifenstein . There is also a NABU nature conservation center and a nature trail in Reifenstein . The Eselsborn spring was redesigned and framed . Furthermore, Reifenstein has a 2-lane bowling facility.
