Wilhelm Georg Karl Levin Freiherr von Wintzingeroda-Knorr (born January 17, 1830 at Gut Adelsborn , Kirchohmfeld , † June 27, 1902 in Göttingen ) was a German politician .

Levin von Wintzingeroda-Knorr came from a sideline of the noble family Wintzingerode, who were wealthy in Eichsfeld . His father Wilhelm Freiherr von Wintzigerode-Knorr (1806–1876), Prussian district administrator and manor house member belonged to the Adelsborn-Wehnde line of the Wintzigerode family. Through his (second) marriage to Clara von Knorr, he brought about the union of names and coats of arms with the noble Knorr family, which had died out in the male line. Wilhelm's first wife and Levin's mother was a distant cousin, Antonie von Wintzigerode-Adelsborn († 1835).

Levin von Wintzingeroda-Knorr married Bertha von Hanstein-Besenhausen, who later inherited Besenhausen . The couple had two children, of whom only the daughter Bertha reached adulthood.

Life

After graduating from the Roßleben monastery school , Levin von Wintzingeroda-Knorr studied at the Georg-August University of Göttingen for the study of cameralistics and law from the winter semester 1849/50 . He also studied for a while at the University of Bonn and, in addition to his actual subjects, also took historical courses. From 1851 to 1853 he did his military service in the 6th Uhlan Regiment and retired with the rank of second lieutenant . He then continued his studies in Berlin. In 1850 he became a member of the Corps Saxonia Bonn and in 1853 a member of the Corps Saxonia Göttingen .

In 1854 he entered the Prussian civil service as an auscultator . A year later he was appointed, initially provisionally, then finally in 1857 as district administrator of the district of Mühlhausen , which he remained until 1871. There he became a member of the Mühlhausen Freemason Lodge Hermann for German Loyalty . In 1872 he was appointed Landarmendirektor of the Province of Saxony and finally became the first regional councilor and deputy to the governor of the province of Saxony (1876-1884).

In 1884 Wintzigeroda resigned from the civil service in order to devote himself to his historical studies in addition to managing his property. Politically, he remained active as a member of the Prussian mansion , to which he had belonged since 1883 as a representative of the old and fortified property in Eichsfeld. He was also a member of the provincial parliament of the province of Saxony .
