Mutus is an impact crater to the south of the lunar front , southwest of Hagecius crater and north of Manzinus . The rim of the crater is heavily eroded, the interior largely flat, except for the secondary craters.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Mallorcan astronomer and mathematician Vicente Mut y Armengol .
