Vicente Mut y Armengol ( Latinized Mutus ; born October 25, 1614 in Palma ; † April 27, 1687 ) was a Mallorcan astronomer , engineer, historian, mathematician and officer of the Spanish crown.

Mut's father was Juan Odon Mut, from a family of notables from Llucmajor on Mallorca, his mother Maria Armengol. Courage attended the Jesuit College in Palma and then studied mathematics and law. After completing his studies, he took up the military career, where he worked primarily as a military engineer and mathematician and eventually reached the rank of Sergeant Major ( Sargento mayor ).

He wrote both military-technical and astronomical works, but above all historical ones, in particular a history of the Kingdom of Mallorca in two volumes ( Historia del Reyno de Mallorca , 1650).

The crater of the moon Mutus is named after him.
