Roumbou I (also: Roumbou ) is a rural community in the Dakoro Department in Niger .

geography

Roumbou I is located in the Sahel region . The Tarka Valley , which originates in the Tanout department, runs through the municipality . The neighboring communities of Roumbou I are Bermo in the north, Bader Goula in the east, Birni Lallé in the south and Azagor in the west. The municipality is divided into 19 administrative villages, eleven traditional villages, seven hamlets and a water point. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Roumbou I (also: Roumbou, Roumbou-Sakabal or Sakkabal).

history

The rural community Roumbou I was created in 2002 as part of a state-wide administrative reform from part of the canton of Birni Lallé. The area was previously disputed between the traditional mansions ( chefferies traditionalnelles ) of Azagor and Birni Lallé.

population

At the 2001 census, the rural community had 8,834 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 13,330. In Roumbou I live among other members of sedentary Tuareg subgroup Ibroubak and Hausa .

politics

In the local elections in July 2004, Tsahirou Boubou ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor.

Economy and Infrastructure

The parish is located in a transitional area prone to food crises between the agropastoral zone of the south and the zone of remote grazing in the north. Land use conflicts often arise between the settled arable farmers and the transhumant cattle breeders who regularly come from neighboring areas . There is a regionally important weekly market in Roumbou-Sakabal. The market day is Sunday. The other infrastructure in the main town is limited to a French-speaking primary school ( école traditionnelle ), a Koran school, a health center ( center de santé intégré ) and a small drinking water pipe .
