history

The main town Korahane was founded by a Hausa named Nahantchi in an area inhabited by nomadic Fulbe and Tuareg . There are four traditional mansions ( French : chefferies traditionalnelles ) in the village: two from the Hausa and two from the Fulbe. Amadou Cheiffou , who was Prime Minister of Niger from 1991 to 1993, is the younger brother of a Fulbe boss in Korahane and had several infrastructure projects carried out in the area, including the construction of a health center. The rural community of Korahane was created as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from part of the canton of Birni Lallé.

At the 2001 census, Korahane had 6,846 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 12,577.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced. Land use conflicts often arise between sedentary farmers and nomadic ranchers.
