history

The village of Sabon-Machi was founded around 1850 by Bako Attabou, a man from Tessaoua , who was accompanied by a well-known marabout . The Hausa place name means "new lance". According to tradition, Bako Attabou beheaded his daughter's kidnapper with a new lance. The rural community of Sabon-Machi emerged from part of the canton of Kornaka in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform.

Economy and Infrastructure

There is an important weekly market for cattle and grain in Sabon-Machi. The market day is Tuesday. The market area is regularly flooded in the rainy season and thus becomes temporarily unusable. The main occupations of the population are agriculture, animal husbandry and trade. The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced. A health center (center de santé intégré), a maternity ward and eight health centers (cases de santé) are available for medical care. There is a middle school, a Koran school and three elementary schools in the rural community. National road 30 runs through Sabon-Machi and connects the town with the departmental capital Dakoro in the north and the rural community of Chadakori in the south, where it meets national road 1 .
