Culture and sights

  • The foundation stone of the church that stands in the village today was laid in 1713 on the dilapidated replacement building of a previous chapel that was destroyed by mercenaries in 1615.
  • In the 1980s, traces of dinosaurs were found in a quarry near Münchehagen. Around this "natural monument of dinosaur tracks " the dinosaur open-air museum was built , in which the excavation results have been presented to visitors since then.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Münchehagen hazardous waste dump , which was closed in 1983 and which became known nationwide in the 1980s, is located several kilometers south of the village . It was created in the late 1960s by backfilling former clay pits. Approx. 350,000 m³ of hazardous waste were stored in the landfill, including toxic substances such as the so-called Seveso dioxin .
