The state road 1005 connects Kreuzebra with Heilbad Heiligenstadt and the city of Dingelstädt in Eichsfeld . The location is at the transition from the Dün in the north to the Upper Eichsfeld in the southwest. The highest point in the district is the Hockelrain (514.4 m) in the northeast, other mountains are the Kreuzebraer Höhe (484.4 m) in the east, the Angerberg (479.1 m) in the south and the Höhenberg (485.2 m) ) in the north-west. The headwaters of the Geislede , a left tributary of the Leine , is located in Kreuzebra on the edge of a basin.

history

Kreuzebra was mentioned in the beginning of the 9th century as Eborahe in the Codex Eberhardi of the Fulda Monastery as one of the monastery properties . In 1374 the parish was first mentioned in a document. The place Kreuzebra belonged to the secularization to Kurmainz , from 1802 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony .

After two days of defense by the Wehrmacht, artillery fire and fighter-bomber attacks, Kreuzebra was occupied by US troops on April 9, 1945 . The church was badly damaged by the bombardment, as were numerous residential buildings.

In early July 1945 the place came to the Soviet occupation zone and was part of the GDR from 1949 . From 1961 until the turnaround and reunification in 1989/1990, Kreuzebra was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border. Since 1990 the place belongs to the state of Thuringia.

The Angerberg was the location of the radio technical troops of the NVA of the GDR until 1990 .

On January 1, 2019, the rural town of Dingelstädt and the communities of Kreuzebra, Kefferhausen , Helmsdorf and Silberhausen were merged to form the new rural town of Dingelstädt. The community Kreuzebra belonged to the administrative community Dingelstädt .

Origin of name

The first names to be mentioned are Eborahe (around 817, 1160). The ahd. "Ebar" for boar was connected with a water suffix "-aha" and means Eberbach. Presumably with the transfer of cross relics to the local church between 1262 and 1341, the place is then called Kruziseber or Kreuzebra. To distinguish the place of the same name near Heiligenstadt , it is called Kalteneber because of its unfavorable location .
