Kalteneber is a district of the city of Heilbad Heiligenstadt in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

The agricultural district is located south of the city of Heilbad Heiligenstadt on the Obereichsfelder Höhe at an altitude of an average of 460  m above sea level. NN . The district is between 370 (in Luttergrund ) and 500 ( on Höheberg ) meters above sea level. The town center itself lies at the foot of the Ebersberg (494 m).

Other neighboring towns are Flinsberg in the east, Bernterode in the south, Dieterode in the south-west and Lutter in the north-west. The country road 2022 grazes the district to the east, whereas the country roads 2024 and 2023 cross the town.

history

Kalteneber was first mentioned in a document in 1318. The origin of the name is derived from ebur and the Old High German ebar for a body of water and is associated with Kreuzebra to the east . To distinguish it, the place was called Kalten Ebra because of its high location on the northern edge of the Eberberg .

From 1914 to 1947 Kalteneber was connected to the Heiligenstadt – Schwebda railway with its own train station. The cessation of railway operations and the dismantling of the tracks took place in 1947 by order of the Soviet military administration . Kalteneber has been part of Heilbad Heiligenstadt since July 1, 1991.

Since 2017, a cycle path has been running between Heilbad Heiligenstadt and the district of Kalteneber on the former Heiligenstadt – Schwebda railway line . This cycle path complements the "Südeichsfeldroute".
