Bernward Müller (born March 5, 1950 in Kreuzebra ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

From May 8, 2008 to November 4, 2009, he was Minister of Culture of the Free State of Thuringia . Before that he was a member of the German Bundestag from 1998 to 2008 .

Life and work

After graduating from the Extended Oberschule (EOS) in Worbis in 1968 , Müller studied at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , which he completed in 1972 as a graduate teacher for mathematics and physics . He then worked as a teacher at the Polytechnic High School (POS) in Schkölen until 1974 and then did his military service in the National People's Army until 1976 . After completing his military service, Müller initially returned to the POS Schkölen as a teacher, but was transferred to the POS "Georg Kunze" in Eisenberg in 1977 . After the fall of the Wall , Müller took over the management of the education office in Eisenberg in 1990 and in 1992 switched to the Thuringian state administration office as a consultant for regular schools . He then headed a department in the Thuringian Ministry of Education from 1994 to 1996 , until he took over the management of the state education office in Stadtroda . Most recently, in 1998, Müller was the personal advisor to the then Thuringian Minister of Education, Dieter Althaus .

Bernward Müller is married and has two children.

Political party

Müller joined the CDU in 1992 and has been a member of the board of the CDU district association Saale-Holzland-Kreis since 1997 . From 1996 to 2006 he was also chairman of the state committee for education of the Thuringian CDU and from 2004 to 2006 also a member of the CDU state executive in Thuringia.

MP

From 1990 to 1994 Müller belonged to the district council of the Eisenberg district and from 1994 to 1999 to the district council of the newly formed Saale-Holzland district.

From 1998 until his resignation on May 9, 2008, he was a member of the German Bundestag . Bernward Müller always entered the Bundestag via the Thuringian state list , his constituency was Gera - Jena - Saale-Holzland-Kreis .

Public offices

On May 8, 2008, Müller was sworn in as Minister of Culture of the Free State of Thuringia. He was only nominated for the ministerial office by Prime Minister Dieter Althaus on May 6 , after the original candidate Peter Krause resigned from the office after public criticism of his journalistic past.

In the state elections in 2009 , the CDU lost its absolute majority. She then formed a coalition cabinet with the SPD , in which Müller lost his office as minister of culture to the SPD state chairman Christoph Matschie .
