Birgit Klaubert (born September 28, 1954 in Schöneck / Vogtl. ) Is a German politician ( Die Linke ) and former Vice-President of the Thuringian Parliament . From December 5, 2014 to July 4, 2017, Klaubert was Thuringian Minister for Education, Youth and Sport in Bodo Ramelow's cabinet .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in Klingenthal , Klaubert completed a teaching degree at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig from 1973 to 1977 . She completed her studies as a certified teacher for German and history. From 1977 to 1980 Birgit Klaubert was a teacher at the POS in Altenburg. She then worked as a teacher at the Institute for Teacher Education in Altenburg until 1983 .

From 1983 to 1986 she took a postgraduate course at the Pedagogical University of Leipzig in the section history and a doctorate in 1986. Dr. phil. with the work The struggle of Free Trade Unions of Germany to the organization of workers from 1896 until the outbreak of World War 1 . After completing her doctorate, she worked as a teacher at the Institute for Teacher Education in Altenburg until 1994.

politics

Birgit Klaubert became a candidate for the SED in 1973 and a year later a member of the party. She was elected to the Altenburg city council in 1990 and to the Thuringian state parliament for the PDS in 1994. From December 13, 1995 until the end of the second legislature, she was parliamentary group leader of the PDS parliamentary group in the state parliament.

In 1999 she was elected Vice President of the Thuringian Parliament for the first time. She retained this function after the elections for the fourth ( June 13, 2004 ) and fifth ( August 30, 2009 ) Thuringian Landtag.

In 2013 she was proposed by the board of the Thuringian Left as a top candidate for the 2013 federal election in Thuringia, her nomination was supported in the party committees. On March 2, 2013, however, only 59 of the 120 delegates voted for Klaubert at the representative assembly of the Thuringian Left. Then she decided not to compete again.

After she was appointed Minister for Education, Youth and Sport in the Ramelow I cabinet on December 5, 2014 , she resigned her seat in the Thuringian state parliament on March 31, 2015 - as did Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow - as part of a separation of office and mandate low.

On July 4, 2017, she resigned from her position as minister due to illness, and was succeeded by Helmut Holter .

Other offices

Birgit Klaubert is a member of the Board of Trustees of the State Center for Political Education and a member of the State Monument Council. She is also an honorary member of the supervisory board of Altenburg-Gera Theater GmbH.
