Wilhelm Kaestner

Wilhelm "Willy" Kästner (born July 16, 1888 in Hochheim , † November 26, 1974 in Burhave ) was a German lawyer and politician ( economic party ).

Life and work

Kästner studied law at the University of Jena , where he became a member of the Arminia fraternity on the Burgkeller in 1908 , and at the University of Tübingen . From 1912 to 1921 he worked in the legal administration of the governments of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and the State of Thuringia . He did military service from 1913 and took part in the First World War as a soldier from 1914 to 1918 . After graduating as Dr. jur. In 1921 he worked as a lawyer, interrupted by his work as a councilor in Gotha (1922–24) and by his tenure as minister (1930–1932). From 1948 to 1953 he worked as a farmer in Hochheim . He then moved to Berlin-Zehlendorf .

Political party

Kästner joined the DDP in 1918 , but left the party in 1928 and switched to the economic party . Since 1933 he was a member of the NSDAP .

Public offices

From January 23, 1930 to July 7, 1932, Kästner was Minister of State for Justice and Economy of the State of Thuringia. On April 22, 1931, he also took over the management of the Ministry of Education. He was thus one of the members of the Baum-Frick government , in which the NSDAP was a coalition partner for the first time in Germany until April 1, 1931. Erwin Baum chaired the government .
