Karl Riedel (born August 3, 1883 in Aachen , † August 24, 1949 in Jena ) was a German lawyer and politician of the DVP .

Life and work

Karl Riedel was the son of the surgeon Bernhard Riedel . After graduating from the Carolo-Alexandrinum (Jena) , he served as a one-year volunteer in 1903/04 . He then studied law at the Friedrichs University in Halle , the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the University of Jena . In the summer semester 1905 renoncierte he the Corps Thuringia Jena . In the same year he moved to the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität - "because of the miserable drinking" - and became active in the Corps Rhenania Bonn . Since the relationship agreement between Thuringia and Rhenania was broken, he could not become active again at Thuringia. In 1908 he passed the first state examination in law. He completed his legal preparatory service from 1908 to 1913 in Saalfeld / Saale , Meiningen and Jena. In January 1909 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD . In December 1913 he passed the second state examination in law. He then worked in Meiningen as an employee at the bank for Thuringia until 1914 . From August 1914 to July 1916 he took part in the First World War as an officer , most recently as captain of the reserve. Riedel worked as a district judge in Sonneberg from 1916 to 1926 and as a judge at the Jena Labor Court from 1926 to 1928 . Since July 1930 he had been a magistrate in Jena again and received the Thuringian Ribbon in the 1930 summer semester. He was involved in the Jena Old Men Senior Citizens' Convention .

politics

At the time of the German Empire, Riedel was a member of the National Liberal Party (NLP). After the November Revolution he joined the German People's Party (DVP) and served as DVP district chairman in Sonneberg until 1926. From November 6, 1928 to October 23, 1929, or as an executive until January 22, 1930, he was Minister of the Interior and Justice in the government of the State of Thuringia . From May 7, 1929 until the end of his term in office, he was also Deputy Chairman of the State Ministry.

Riedel was chairman of the Sonneberg district association of warrior and military associations until 1926, then joined the Bund Wiking and in 1932 became a member of the Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten and 1933 of the NSDFB. He had been a sponsoring member of the SS since October 1933 and then joined the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP). After the Second World War he was a member of the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany (LDPD).
