Bernhard Post

Bernhard Post (* 1953 ) is a German archivist and historian . For many years he was director of the main state archive in Weimar and until his retirement he was director of the Thuringian state archive .

Life

After studying history , German and pedagogy at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 1975 to 1980, Post received his doctorate from 1981 to 1984 with a thesis on Jewish tolerance and Jewish emancipation in Kurmainz 1774-1813 after completing a doctorate . He then completed an archive traineeship at the Koblenz State Archives and the Marburg Archives School . From 1987 to 1993 he worked as a consultant at the Hessian Main State Archives in Wiesbaden . In 1993, Post became department head for newer collections at the Thuringian Central State Archives in Weimar, and from 2002 to 2008 he was head of the central department in the Weimar archive. From April 1, 2009, Post was director of the main state archive in Weimar and, following the reform of the Thuringian State Archives Act, head of the Thuringia State Archives. In November 2018, Bernhard Post was retired by State Secretary for Culture Babette Winter .
