The Hockelrain is 515.4  m above sea level. NHN the second highest mountain of the Dün in the Obereichsfeld in northwest Thuringia .

geography

It is located within the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park in the western part of the Dün, in the districts of Kreuzebra , Beuren and Kallmerode about 10 km east of Heilbad Heiligenstadt and 4 km northwest of Dingelstädt .

While the plateau and its southern slopes are used mainly agricultural, its northern reaches of the are Escarpment of Dün, such as the winter mountain (511 m) with the hops Berg (503.1 m) and Hell (498 m) is fenced. The state road L 2045 runs over the southern slope as a one-way street from Kreuzebra to Kallmerode . From the Hockelrain you have a wide panoramic view over the heights of the Eichsfeld , to the Harz with the Brocken in the north, the Inselsberg in the south and the Hohe Meißner in the west.

Others

Because of its exposed location, there is a transmitter mast and a radio mast on the mountain. There is a small refuge for hikers and cross-country skiers.
