Waxedt is a municipality in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld . It belongs to the administrative community of Westerwald-Obereichsfeld .
Geographical location
Wachsedt is located on the plateau of the Upper Eichsfeld northeast of the wooded ridge of the Westerwald on the eastern edge of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park . The Thuringian Basin begins further south-east . The nearest town Dingelstädt is about 5 kilometers to the northeast and the district town of Heilbad Heiligenstadt is 11 kilometers to the northwest. The Steingraben, a northern tributary of the Lutter, has its source in the village .
The Neuhaus single farm (first mentioned in 1291) and the Westerwald forester's lodge on the 504 m high official fathom also belong to the municipality of Wachsedt . The district is located at an altitude of approx. 300 m in the valley below Gleichenstein Castle and 520 m north-west of waxedt.
history
Wachsedt was first mentioned in a deed of donation from Ditmar von Kirchberg in 1134 and belonged to Kurmainz until the secularization in 1802 . In 1525, during the Peasant War, Wachsedt was devastated by the nobility. During the Thirty Years' War the place was burned down in 1632 by the troops of Bernhard von Weimar . From 1802 to 1807 the place became Prussian and then became part of the Kingdom of Westphalia . From 1815 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony . A cigar factory was built on site around 1900.
On April 7, 1945, after a brief battle in retreat by the Wehrmacht, the US Army occupied waxedt. Before that, artillery and fighter-bombers had destroyed several houses and numerous farm buildings. At the beginning of July 1945 the place came to the Soviet occupation zone / SBZ and was part of the GDR from 1949 . From 1961 until the turnaround and reunification in 1989/1990, Wachsedt was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border. On a hill near the village there was a Soviet radar station for air surveillance (radio station 411). Since 1990 the place belongs to the re-established state of Thuringia.

Blazon : "In gold over a silver wall shield foot, a growing guard with a green doublet and hat, peering with his right hand on the brim of his hat, in his left hand, supporting himself on the wall, holding a golden horn slung around his neck."
It is talking and was designed by Hans Otto Arnold from Göttingen.
Attractions
- Grafenburg Gleichenstein , on the 459 m high Schlossberg between Martinfeld and waxedt. It was first mentioned in 1250 . Since 1993 there has been a falconry at the castle .
- Halfway below the Gleichenstein Castle and the village waxedt, the area is called Klüschen Hagis . A pilgrimage chapel and a hermitage were built there in the 16th century . The resident was called Klausner Hans . The donkey spring that rises in this area is known for its spring pot. The chapel and the surrounding area were certainly places of pilgrimage for devotion to Mary in the past.

Others
As evidence of an often coarse folk humor, neck names and nicknames that characterize each village developed centuries ago . Accordingly, the waxedter Kleeben lived here in the place - waxedter onions or wooden blocks .
