Building description

During the construction of the church, the choir of the previous building from 1781 was included and the old building material was reused. The church is a three-aisled cross basilica and has a recessed church tower in the west . The side aisles in the west were extended to a stair tower and a baptistery . The nave has six axes . The stone-facing exterior is structured by pilasters based on the previous building . The masonry made of rubble stones contrasts with the patterned walls and cornices . The windows with star-shaped patterns were carried over from the previous building. On the back wall of the choir is a double wall niche with polychrome, wooden statues of the church patron . The gable in the west is decorated with volutes and the extended eaves . Three arched portals , the middle one architecturally framed, form the entrance to the church. In the interior , the aisles are open to the central nave through arcades that sit on pillars with profiled fighters . Likewise the gallery in the west and the foyer in the tower. The nave is covered with a flat ceiling with stucco , the tower vestibule and baptistery are vaulted . The yoke of the choir has the original arch.

Furnishing

Bells

Up until 1917 the Geisleder parish church had three bronze church bells , which were cast in 1522, 1733 and 1760. The latter two had to be given for war purposes in the First World War. The oldest bell, the death knell , was allowed to remain because of its good tone and historical value. On July 30, 1927, three new church bells arrived and were solemnly consecrated the following day. During the Second World War , the three bronze bells from 1927 were dismantled for the armaments industry . They were replaced by chilled cast iron bells . In 1954 the church received three new chilled cast iron bells from the bell foundry in Apolda . Since these bells only have a shelf life of approx. 50 to 80 years, they will have to be replaced by bronze bells in the coming years.
