The Misseröder Kalkrücke is a small mountain range up to 424.0 m high in the Südeichsfeld , about 10 kilometers south of Heilbad Heiligenstadt in Thuringia ( Germany ).

Geographical location

The Misseröder Limestone Ridge, a ridge stretching in a northwest-southeast direction, is about 5 kilometers long and up to 2.5 km wide. Viewed clockwise, it lies between Geismar in the south, Sickerode and Wiesenfeld in the west, armaments in the north and Ershausen in the southeast. The small villages of Lehna and Misserode are centrally located in a flat hollow .

Natural allocation

According to the classification of the handbook of the natural spatial structure of Germany , the Misseröder limestone ridge is assigned as follows:

According to the alternative division of the Thuringian State Institute for Environment and Geology (TLUG) it is counted as part of the Werrabergland – Hörselberge unit .

Geology and landscape

The Misseröder limestone ridge forms its own natural space within the red sandstone landscape of the Rosoppe-Frieda hill country . Along the Eichenberg – Gotha – Saalfelder fault zone , several parallel faults formed from limestone, interspersed with different rocks (including silt and clay stones). A quarry near Misserode is to be proposed as a geological natural monument to illustrate the geological structure of the fault zone.

The numerous mountain peaks (hence the name Lehnsche Köpf) and steeper step edges are wooded, the central hollow and the flatter slopes are used for agriculture.

The small ridge separates the flatter northern part of the Rosoppe - Frieda hill country from the mountainous southern part and is part of the southern eichsfeld hill country.

mountains

In terms of height, the mountains include:

  • Siebertsburg (424.0 m) and
    • Wolkenberg (415.8 m), southeast of armaments
  • Thomaskopf (390.5 m), south of armaments
  • Sickeröder Berg (386.4 m) and
    • Lichtberg (385.8 m) north of Sickerode
  • Winterberg (approx. 370 m) with Paulitzkopf (372.3 m) southwest of Ershausen
  • Roßberg (369.3 m), northwest of Geismar

Waters

The limestone ridge is bordered by the following tributaries of the Frieda :

In the north, the Hüneberg (452 m) of the Upper Eichsfeld borders the ridge. It is divided by a shallow basin, with a stream ( Tiefenbach ) flowing to the northwest of the Rode and a stream ( Tiefenbach ) flowing to the southeast of the Rosoppe , into a southwestern and northeastern mountain range.

Siebertsburg

The name of the wooded hilltop is derived from the castle of a Sigibert. Whether there was a castle on the mountain cannot be proven, there is neither archaeological nor documented evidence.
