It is bordered by the Leine in the north and its left tributaries Lutter in the east and the Griesbach in the west. Lutter and Fürstenhagen border the Lengenberg immediately to the east, while Lenterode and Wüstheuterode are to the west .

nature

The completely forested ridge extends from the northern edge of its northern mountain spur, the Lichtenbühl (about 461.6 m), about 2 km to the south-southwest, reached at Fürstenhagen a height of about 485 m and goes there running in the plateau of the Upper Eichsfeld with the Eichstruther head (503.0 m) southwest of Fürstenhagen over. To the north-west of the (Großer) Lichtenbühl is the Kleine Lichtenbühl (375.6 m), which already stands in the red sandstone and which is directly connected to the Lower Eichsfeld .

In the forest area with predominantly beech stands, on the western slope, there is the 26-hectare NSG Lengenberg (first designated in 1961) with one of the largest stands of yew in Central Europe. The visitor center of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal nature park in Fürstenhagen is located on the southern edge of the forest . From here the Eibenwald nature trail leads past the Lengenberg forester's house through the Lengenberg.
