The Schwebda moated castle , also known as Walrabhof or Walrabshof , is located in the Schwebda district of the north Hessian community of Meinhard in the Werra-Meißner district in Hesse . The moated castle is located in the Lindenanger of Schwebda and was connected to the Werra by its former moat .

history

According to documents from the Lords of Schwebda, the construction of the castle probably fell between 1243 and 1269. The Lords of Schwebda gave their property to the Lords of Bilstein as a fief in 1297 . After the Bilsteiners died out, the castle went to the Landgraves of Hesse in 1301, documented .

In the 16th century, the castle was demolished and the older parts of the building were used to build the “stone house” with a toilet bay , which is still preserved today and is privately owned.
