The Albrechtsberg near Hoheleye in the Hochsauerlandkreis and Girkhausen in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district , North Rhine-Westphalia , is 771.2  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Rothaargebirge and in front of the Großer Kopf ( 740.3  m ) the main summit of the southwestern Winterberg highlands and the second highest mountain in the last-mentioned district.

The Albrechtsberg lies on the seam line of the Hochsauerlandkreis in the north and the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in the south. It rises in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park just south of half the air line from Winterberg in the north-east to Schmallenberg in the west-north-west with Bad Berleburg located south of this line . The closest villages and hamlets are the Schmallenberg districts of Westfeld (3.1 km north), Oberkirchen (3.9 km northwest), Almert (4.2 km northwest) and Schanze (2.7 km west-southwest), the Winterberg district Hoheleye ( 2.5 km northeast) and the Bad Berleburg districts of Girkhausen (3.6 km southeast) and Kühhude (2.6 km southwest; each as the crow flies).

The foothills of the Albrechtsberg, wooded with deciduous and coniferous trees, include Bremberg ( 723.9  m ) in the north, Dödesberg ( 709.3  m ) in the east-southeast, Emmekopf ( 678.8  m ) in the south-southeast and Siegelkopf ( 705.1  m ) in the West.

About 100 m east-southeast of the Albrechtsberg summit ( 770.8  m ) there is a trigonometric point ( 768.1  m ).

The Albrechtsberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) to the natural area Östliche (Kühhuder) Rothaar (333.52). The landscape falls to the north into the subunit Lennekessel (333.6) and to the northeast into the natural area Langewiese (333.53).

Watershed and rivers

The Rhine-Weser watershed runs over the Albrechtsberg :

The water of the northwest running Waldsiepens and that of its tributaries Große and Kleine Bellmecke flows through the Lenne and Ruhr to the Rhine . The water of the Lenne tributary Hartmecke and that of the Latrop tributary Schladebach (Grubensiepen) also run there .

In contrast, the water of the south-facing Dödesbach flows through the Odeborn , Eder and Fulda into the Weser . The Dödesbach tributary Emmegraben, which emerges from the Friedensquelle , and that of the Odeborn tributary Lausebach (Lause) also flow there .

Protected areas

Directly southeast of the summit of the Albrechtsberg are areas of the 38.4 km² nature reserve Rothaarkamm on Grenzweg, founded in 2004 ( CDDA no. 329598). This is followed by those of the forest reserve Schanze (CDDA No. 389939), which was founded in 2008 and has a size of 21.02 km², to the northwest . The mountain lies in the core area of ​​the Fauna-Flora-Habitat- Area Schanze (FFH-Nr. 4816-302), which is 61.62 km². On both sides of the ridge are areas of the Rothaargebirge landscape protection areas, founded in 1994 - Hochsauerlandkreis-Teilfläche 1 (CDDA-Nr. 323981), which is 140.53 km² and in the north reaches up to the summit, and Rothaargebirge - Siegen-Wittgenstein district (CDDA- No. 390204), which is 299.43 km² in size and extends to the eastern mountain flank.

Traffic and walking

About 1.2 km east-northeast of the summit, the federal highway 480 branches off to the south from the B 236 ; From there, both roads in the northeast to Winterberg have a common section and the latter is in sections part of the Hochsauerland-Höhenstraße holiday route . At this junction is the hiking car park Albrechtsplatz ( 729  m ), from which you can walk to the Albrechtsberg , for example, on the Rothaarsteig , which leads from Hoheleye to this car park.
