The coal mountain is 583  m above sea level. NN high mountain in the Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg . It is one of the bagpipe forecrops that, as part of the eastern Sauerland mountain range, cover the Rothaargebirge southeast of the 673.3  m high bagpipe .

Geographical location

The coal mountain lies between the Hatzfeld district of Eifa in the west-southwest and the Battenberg district of Frohnhausen in the east and borders directly on the Wetschaft depression to the (south) east . In addition to its 583  m high main summit, it has an approximately 560  m high second summit in the northeast .

Eifa Castle

Eifa Castle stood southeast of Eifa on a southern spur of the coal mountain . It was probably built in the 13th century to control a trade route . It was separated from the slope by a ditch . Visible remains of the wall are no longer there.
