Buhuși is a city in Bacau County in Romania .
location
Buhuși is located on the eastern side of the Eastern Carpathians in the Cracău-Bistrița depression on the Bistrița river . The district capital Bacau is located about 25 km southeast.
history
Buhuși was first mentioned in a document in 1438. 1457 defeated his adversary Petru Aron in the area of today's city Ștefan cel Mare and thus ascended the throne of the Principality of Moldova . The name of the place - which was originally called Bodeşti - changed over time into its current form and is derived from a noble family Buhuş who lived in the area. In 1885 a large textile factory was opened, which from then on determined economic life in Buhuși for a long time. In 1930 Buhuși was declared a town. Today only a few people work in the textile factory. A new business park has been set up on the outskirts.
The zoo, which was built in the early 1980s, was closed in early 2009 due to improper operation. The area is (as of 2015) in a desolate condition.

In 1828 50 houses were registered in Buhuși. In 1921 around 6,000 people lived in the village, in 1930 - after the two cadastral parishes were incorporated - 12,000. As a result, the population continued to grow until the 1989 revolution to around 22,000. In the 2002 census, 18,746 inhabitants were registered in the city, including 18,155 Romanians , 551 Roma , 16 Hungarians , ten Germans and seven Jews . In 2011, only 14,562 people were registered in Buhuși, of which 11,837 identified themselves as Romanians, 1264 as Roma, 14 as Romanian Germans, nine as Magyars, seven as Greeks and the rest of them did not provide any information about their ethnicity.

Buhuși lies on the railway line between Bacău and Bicaz ; There are train connections here several times a day. There is regular bus service to Bacau, among other places. The national road 15 runs through the city between Bacau and Turda .
