The Traddelkopf is 626.4  m above sea level. NHN, after Wüstegarten , Hohem Lohr and Großer Aschkoppe, is the fourth highest mountain in the Kellerwald low mountain range , the highest elevation of the Eder heights in its northern part. It is located near Gellershausen in the North Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .

geography

location

The Traddelkopf rises in the Ederhöhen, a mountain region whose area is roughly congruent with the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park . The latter is surrounded by the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park . Its summit is about 2.5 km west of Gellershausen, the most south-westerly district of Edertal , to whose municipal area the mountain belongs, and about 2.5 km north of Frebershausen , the westernmost part of Bad Wildungen . Both villages are on the Wesebach , a southwest tributary of the Eder . To the north of the mountain, the Große Küche creek rises as a tributary to the left of the Keßbach , which flows north over the Banfebach (Banferbach) into the Edersee . The Ahornkopf ( 604.1  m ) is the southwestern branch .

Natural allocation

The Traddelkopf belongs in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessisches Bergland (No. 34) and in the main unit Kellerwald (344) to the subunit Große Hardt (344.3). To the southeast, the landscape turns into the Wildunger Bergland subunit (344.2).

Protected areas and nature

Parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Kellerwald (FFH no. 4819-301; 58.2261  km² ) and the Kellerwald bird sanctuary (VSG no. 4920-401; 263.9949 km²) are located on the heavily forested Traddelkopf .

Like the Ahornkopf, the Traddelkopf has a large, old beech forest . On the western flank of the Ahornkopf in the neighboring municipality of Frankenau lies the former Ruhlauber nature reserve (NSG no. 165248; designated 1989/1990; 57  ha ); it has now merged into the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, founded in 2004 . The nature reserve, in which there is no forestry use and which used to be a structurally poor and single-layer indoor forest - mostly free from undergrowth and dead wood - is gradually developing into a natural forest . Flora and fauna are left to their own devices. In some places beeches up to 200 years old thrive.
